Stephen Shelley interned with us for four months in 2016. After four months, Stephen knew God had something more for him. This is what he says of his time here and his next step, "Being an intern was such a life-giving experience for me. The 'hands on' ministry allowed me to explore different aspects of ministry and to try new things. It is exciting to say I'll be joining the Adventures Guatemala full-time staff in 2017. I am ecstatic to join such an incredible group that's doing remarkable things in Church Mobilization."

Melanie Heath joined us in Guatemala in January 2015 as a participant in the Center for Global Action. During her time serving with us, Melanie was able to develop an art therapy program that we use in children's homes. Of her time here, she says, "I have learned what it looks like to be a long-term missionary! It’s been such a blessing to serve alongside the long-term missionaries here in Guatemala and learn from them. They pour out so much here, and truly have a deep love for the country of Guatemala." After eight months in Guatemala, Melanie moved to South Africa and is working with the ministry Yebo Life as their Healing Arts Coordinator.

We first met Mafer Aparicio when she translated for us on a short-term missions trip in the summer of 2014.  Since then, Mafer has joined us for ministry, family dinners, group outings, and more. "Spending this last year with the people that live in the Adventures Guatemala base has been a year of growth and learning. I've grown in my faith and in my character. I have learned to hear God's voice. My way of seeing myself has changed, because they have believed in me since the first day. I found a new family!" Mafer participated on the World Race: Gap Year trip, where shel ministered in Guatemala and Malaysia.

As a World Race: Gap Year participant, Anthony Martin spent three months at our base in the Fall of 2014. "Adventures Guatemala will always hold a special place in my heart. One of the biggest things I took away from my time there was their obedience to the Lord in what He had called them to. God is most definitely working through the Adventures base and all over Guatemala!" Anthony now attends college in Ontario, Canada.
